Here's the thing about research: You try to get all the facts as accurately as you can--but seldom, if ever, does anyone get everything just right. So mistakes appear in the record, and the next researcher picks up and repeats some of them up--knows better, and corrects other mistakes--and makes new mistakes, which become part of the record.
