Daniel Pinkwater has this ode to the clam…the ones you eat. Breaded, fried, on a fresh roll with tarter sauce—on Nantucket or at the Howard Johnson’s–he describes the greatness of this food and laments the fact that he lives inland now and doesn’t really trust the cleanliness of the coastal waters.
